This will come with a black and color ink. The inks are PGI-220 Pigment Black and CLI-221 (Cyan/Magenta/Yellow/Black).

The MX490 comes with the ink cartridge XL 245 - Black; and XL 246 - Color. It&#39;s only two cartridges. I hope this information was helpful.

New printers usually come with a &#39;starter&#39; ink which does not last as long as what you replace it with. Plus the XL ink cartridges last much longer so try &amp; purchase the 245XL &amp; 246XL ink cartridges

I am an IT manager who buys a variety of printers. In almost all cases inkjet printers come with a full compliment of &quot;starter&quot; cartridges. I have never seen it mentioned in the printer&#39;s literature but typically they give you all the cartridges the printer takes but the ink/toner is about half as much as with a standard cartridge you would purchase.

It is always wise when buying a printer to buy a full set of cartridges at the same time. In addition to being prepared, this will also tell you what the cartridges cost. If you see the price is higher than other similar printers it may affect you decision to purchase that model.

This printer came with one starter black and one starter color cartridge (I think the numbers were 243 and 244).  Certainly you will want to purchase black cart 245XL and color cart 246XL shortly after purchase -- be sure they are the XL variety.  The carts can be bought right here at Walmart.com and are likely available in most local Walmart brick and mortar stores.

The description says it comes with "a FINE cartridge."

No, this item is not yet compatible with Windows 10.

The Canon Driver download lists Windows 10/ 10 64-bit as a supported OS, so I would say the previous answer is wrong. The current driver does support 32-bit and 64-bit Windows 10.

I have now installed the software on my Windows 10 laptop and have actually printed to the printer and scanned a document wirelessly.

Yes! I waited to purchase this product for the same reason. I have purchased and connected my printer using windows 10 and the wifi function allows printing from multiple devices.  It includes software containing drivers, so I installed to my laptop(Windows 10) and my older desktop(Vista).

At least for my uses Canon has a Windows 10 compatible driver on its website.

I am running Windows 10 pro 64 bit and I have had no driver problems.  All updates are done during the installation process

You can scan, fax, and copy without a computer connection.

Being Wireless - yes you can print without being connected to you computer. You will need to check with Canon to see if you will need to be connected (USB) to computer to install the printer.

If you have had a printer before, you probably have a USB cable which will work. If you are like me, you keep cables, A/C printer plugs and anything else from your older printers, laptops, etc.

If you have a newer WPA compatible wireless router, yes -- either directly from the printer or via temporary USB connection to a newer computer (Windows 7 and 10 instructions are available on the Canon website, I would think it is possible on Windows 8 and 8.1 as well) and the driver software via your computer.  There isn&#39;t a provision for connecting to the router via Ethernet cable.  There is provision for connecting directly to your computer via USB cable, though.
