I'm going to give it to you straight! My 9 year old son doesn't like smart toys, he thinks they are too fancy and boring. He loved this product!! I bought it for him at our local store in Secaucus and he was blown away.

Firstly, he loves Star Wars. He has never really liked remote control cars because as soon as the battery goes dead, you might as well put them in the cupboard and use them again never! This product is different. I had to help him a little bit sticking the wheels on, but apart from that he did the whole thing himself. Didn't do a great job with the stickers, but it's passable.

Once he finished making R2D2, there were all these missions where he could invent his own droid! he could rearrange the sensors to create an intruder alert droid, or make his head spin. He started to understand electronics towards the end of it. 

One thing I will say, do not try and assemble it without the app, you're in for a world of hurt. There is a diagram on the front - That is not enough information. The app is where it's at, there are some crazy sci-fi 5th dimensional videos showing you how to do things.

Also do not assemble on a high table, he will roll right off the moment you turn him on, before you connect it to your phone! we found that out the hard way. He is a resiliant little thing.

You should definitely buy this product, if not for your kid, for you!

How did they squeeze $300 worth of value into $99

I bought this product for my 10 year old niece and she absolutely LOVES it! She is a huge Star Wars fan (Rey is her hero) and opening this up MADE her birthday. We spent days together building it and watching her imagination blossom with the invention portion was such a treat. Would 100% recommend!

Best Product Ever!

You do have to download an app on an Apple or android device. It has very easy to follow instructions. Each of the builds are a fun mission for them to complete.

Great toy

Bought this for my friend Jill's 8-yr-old daughter, and I haven't heard about anything else since. She now considers me a hero and a God. Whenever I come over, her daughter rushes out to show me her progress on it or different inventions she's made from it. This product is amazing, and if you want to get the best hero of the decade, look no further!

Perfect gift for aspiring inventors

Great idea but it doesn't work. The company has abandoned the app necessary for learning assembly instructions and operating remote/bluetooth. So we have a toy in pieces that we can't assemble because the app. doesn't exist anymore.  Wish I had known that before I bought it. Is it legal to advertise and sell a toy that is incomplete?

Bad review for outdated toy.

Axel sheered off into wheel within first hour of play. Has made unit completely unusable. Such a disappointment.

Broke within 1 hour

Do not buy this if you are in the United States. The app for it is not available in the U.S. since the update, this has been discontinued by the manufacturer, and the seller will not respond to you to fix the issue. Walmart did issue a refund, but my son was heartbroken bc we had just gone to Disney and he didnt get to build one there so I ordered this one as a surprise when he got home. Then he couldnt even use it!

Dont buy!!

So incredibly disappointed! This was at the top of my son's wish list this Christmas. The app is gone from the app store. You can no longer download it anywhere. The droid doesn't even have instructions as they are supposed to be in the non-existent app. And even if you build it, you cannot control it without the app! Total waste of money!

The kit instructions are housed Ina app that is no longer available in n the US. This item should not even be available for purchase.

The package came with a note that said "works only with android".   As a result, we had to return the toy.   That information should have been provided on the site for all potential buyers to see.
