2017 Pioneer LX102
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Overall a good receiver with a lot of features for the price. All 4 of the HDMI terminals support 4K, BT.2020, and HDCP 2.2 for 4K needs (some receivers I looked at only 3 of the 4-5 HDMI were compliant). Setup was pretty easy, but the ARC / HDMI CEC seems a little glitchy, when I have it turned on the TV signal cuts out, so I have to turn CEC off to watch TV without the receiver on (I have a nice sound bar so don't always watch TV in surround). My main gripe is that when watching a movie the receiver does not show the audio format playing on the main display, you have to use the ' I ' button on the remote and is shows on a HUD on the TV and the main display, then switches back to what input the receiver is on. IMHO - when watching a movie the TV shows the picture, the receiver is mainly responsible for the sound, so I want the main display to show ATMOS, Dolby True HD, ect.

Excellent receiver great deal.
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I went to buy a Dennon 7.1 reciever and ended up buying the Pioneer Elite 7.1 Reciever. Thanks to the employee in a black shirt who had a whole lot of knowledge about smart systems. I am very tech knowledge so I wanted to see what he had to say and led me to the right direction. Also I knew my subwoofer wouldn’t work with the new system due to no rca jack in the back. He also showed me the Polk subwoofer which was on sale for 99 bucks and the subwoofer was an awesome choice also. I had ordered the Samsung smart tv 700 series 55 inch so this is the reason I needed to update my whole system to a smart system.

Best Buy for the money
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This unit replaces a 15 year old unit that was missing HDMI ports. Had to move to the 21st century. Saved a bundle and $50 more because the price was reduced further.

Decent AVR
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I purchased this on sale for $349. For that price it is a very good AVR. I was expecting the Pioneer iControl AV5 app to work with the LX102 but it does not. You can look on the Pioneer website for compatibility. It does however work with the Pioneer remote app which is ok. The best feature is the equalizer which makes a huge difference. You can also make other adjustments for each individual speaker. This AVR is the easiest piece of electronics I ever set up. It did everything it had to. The remote is very simple which is a welcome change to my 12 year old Pioneer with a thousand buttons. I am running 2 Def Tech SM55's and with the EQ they sound amazing. Even watching movies with only 2 channels on Dolby Stereo is very satisfying. The power the Pioneer produces is clean with no distortion. The unit does run a little warm, but this is normal for an AVR in this class. Overall this is a good solid receiver for the price.

very solid receiver
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This receiver was extremely easy to set up right from the beginning. I connected it to my wifi and it has NEVER lost the connection. The blutooth connection is solid as well. streaming from my phone to the receiver is seamless. The receiver sounds really clean and produces a great picture as well. I used the included tuning mic to tune everything. The steps were displayed on screen and were very easy to follow. I am pleased with the audio and the video output of this receiver. I could only wish that the remote could be programmed to control other devices, but this receiver is definitely great for the money.

Solid AV Receiver
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.A very solid AV Receiver. I have had no problems at all with this unit, it sounds great and has more than enough power for my medium size Home Theater room. I have not experienced any clicking sounds mentioned elsewhere in the reviews. Also,it has a phono input, which is a definite plus. For the price, you can't beat it.

Big bang for the buck
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Wow... When I bought this unit it was on sale, and it just can't be beat for the price. This is my first "big boy" system, upgrading from a basic 5.1 soundbar setup. After extensive research, I decided to upgrade for the greater decoding capabilities, as my old setup just had DD and DTS 2ch. I found this unit on sale at my local Best Buy for nearly $100 less than the comparable Denon and Onkyo receivers. My "new" setup consists of this receiver with an old 1st Gen. Polk SurroundBar I found in my parents' storage unit. I added new Polk TL2's for the surround back channels and a Polk 11" subwoofer. Everything's running at an 8ohm load. While the left and right surrounds are simulated by the SurroundBar setup, this is where the Pioneer receiver shines. It has breathed new life into this dated SurroundBar. It really packs a wallop, too. While the unit is rated at 80w/ch at 8ohms, this rating says little to nothing about decibel output. The space I have is fairly small, however, so I can't say how it would perform in a larger space. The Dolby Surround and DTS Neural: X upsampling seem to vary by input source, but both sound just awesome coming through the receiver and speakers. The differences between the two definitely seem to say more about the input source and encoding/decoding than about the unit itself. The automatic calibration feature is also great, and makes this unit a great option for first-timers and those who are not particularly tech-savvy. The automatic calibration has required very minimal tweaking, and most people probably wouldn't need to make any adjustments one way or another. Another awesome feature is the built in analog to HDMI up-conversion and 1080p-4K HDMI-HDMI upscaling. The former is especially handy, since I can play all of my retro game consoles on my TV, which has no analog inputs. While the 1080p-4K upsampling from my current generation consoles is subtle, it's certainly noticeable. My bookshelf back surrounds are small enough to position as down-firing speakers for a 5.1.2 Atmos setup, but I haven't had an opportunity to play or watch any titles with native Atmos or DTS:X just yet. All in all this was a great buy, and I would highly recommend it to anyone looking for an upgrade or a first receiver.

Q: Questionwhy do a/v receivers rated at 7.2 accommodate more then the obvious front left and right speakers, The rear left and right speakers,sub-woofer,and center channel
Asked by eldoctoro.
- A:Answer 7.2 allows for 3 more speakers than the ‘usual’ 5.1 setup you describe... 5.1 translates to 5 channels plus 1 sub - 5.1. So a 7.2 system can accommodate 2 extra surround speakers (sides) plus the option of L and R subs. It’s a bit overkill, but there’s always got to be a next best thing, and if you have a true home theater, L/R subs and side surrounds can provide a more surrounding experience.

Q: QuestionI purchased poll audio T50 tower speakers will this amp be plenty of power
Asked by Chicken.
- A:Answer Congrats on your new Polk speakers! Short answer: yes. Long answer: the T50's are rated at an impedance of 6ohms. At 6ohms, this receiver is rated at 170w/ch, with 2 channels driven. "Channels driven," as I understand it, roughly translates as: "this is is the nominal power of the system at this impedance when there are this many channels outputting sound at the same time." That said, many input sources will output from more than two channels at once, resulting in slight reductions in power output, and slight increases in THD, or total harmonic distortion. Now, the T50's are rated at a maximum power handling of 150w, but Polk recommends a very broad range of 20w-100w. The VSX-LX102's power is plenty for this system, but might actually be a little overpowered. There's nothing terribly wrong with that, but you would have to be careful to avoid clipping, and ultimately damaging your floor speakers at higher volumes.

Q: QuestionCan I get any higher than 80w @ 8ohm speakers if I run a 5.1 setup and not a 7.2? I want to be at 125W per channel @ 8ohms.
Asked by Oxcart.
- A:Answer at 8 ohms you will only get 80 watts, at 6ohms you will get up to 170Watts. As the ohms increases the watts decreases. if you look at the power specs at the pioneer site it will tell you this info. https://www.pioneerelectronics.com/PUSA/Home/AV-Receivers/Elite+Receivers/VSX-LX102#specs

Q: QuestionDoes this receiver display the volume on screen when it is adjusted up or down?
Asked by Volumelevel.
- A:Answer Hi, you are correct the volume does display on the screen when you adjust it. I did notice that it's not a number example 0 being low to 100 max but instead it's dB (decibels). Hope that helps.
